Brakes and bearings can't be priced before they're inspected — every van wears differently depending on age, kilometres, storage conditions, and how often it gets towed. Honest pricing means we inspect first, quote second, then do the work with your approval.

Most common parts (bearings, seals, brake shoes, magnets) are stocked on the van. Approve and we keep going — typically finished the same afternoon.
Every quote is specific to your van and what's actually worn — we won't give a fixed price on parts we haven't seen yet. As a rough planning guide:
Strip, clean, inspect, repack with marine-grade grease. Replacement bearings if needed. Includes new hub seals.
New brake shoes (electric or mechanical), magnet replacement if required, drum clean and adjustment.
If drums are scored beyond machining tolerance. Less common but does happen on heavily-used or salt-exposed vans.
The brakes & bearings check is included as standard in our Annual Service — if you're due for a service anyway, that's the better-value visit. The $220 standalone inspection is for vans where the Annual Service isn't due yet, but you've noticed a problem or want a pre-trip check.
Because every van comes in differently worn. Sometimes the shoes have life left and just need an adjustment. Sometimes the magnets are dead but the shoes are fine. Sometimes the drums need machining; sometimes they need replacing. Quoting a fixed price means either over-charging customers whose vans need less work, or under-quoting and surprising them with a higher bill. The diagnostic-first model is fairer to everyone.
The $220 inspection fee is a separate line item and isn't deducted from the repair quote. It's a real fee for a real piece of work — about 90 minutes of strip-down, inspection and a written report. It's the same model used by mechanics for diagnostic work and pre-purchase inspections.

Yes — that's covered under our 12V Diagnostic visit. If you book the brake inspection and we find a controller wiring issue, we'll either fix it on the same visit (most cases) or quote it separately if it needs more time.
